BUZZER-BEATER ENDS STOUFFVILLE’S SEASON

A Trenton Golden Hawks’ goal with 1.8 seconds remaining in regulation time ended the Stouffville Spirit’s season and advanced Trenton to the second round of the Ontario Junior Hockey League playoffs Thursday night.

Trenton won 4-3 in front of more than 500 fans at the Stouffville Arena to win the first-round series 4-0.

The plucky Spirit came back from 1-0 and 3-1 deficits, much to the delight of the big crowd.

Nathan Twohey, Lachlan Wells and Evan Breckles scored for Stouffville.

Captain Odaro Ewere assisted on two of the goals. It was the final game of junior eligibility for Twohey and Ewere and teammates Cam Kosurko and Myles Yearwood.

Stephen Toltl turned away 19 Trenton shots in the Spirit net.
