SPIRIT WINS BIG IN FRONT OF LARGE OPENING-NIGHT CROWD

The Stouffville Spirit won their Ontario Junior Hockey League home opener with a bang at the Stouffville Arena Saturday night.

Nearly 600 fans saw the Spirit defeat the Aurora Tigers 7-3 on Farmer Jack’s night. The Spirit (2-0-0) defeated the Tigers 4-4 in Aurora the night before.

Seven players scored one goal each for the Spirit who held period leads of 3-0 and 6-2 Saturday.

First-year forward Tayjon Street led all scorers with a goal and two assists. He was ejected from the game at the 7:43 mark of the second period for fighting.

Other goal scorers were Lachlan Wells, Odaro Ewere, Evan Breckles, Peter Kioussis, David Paglia and Danny Thomakos.

Julian Demiglio had three assists.

Stephen Toltl picked up his first Jr. A win in goal.

The Spirit outshot Aurora 39-21.

Paglia was selected player of the game.

The Spirit is home to the Trenton Golden Hawks Saturday, Sept. 16, at 7:30 p.m.
