Three and possibly four players will represent the Stouffville Spirit at the 2024 Battle of Ontario in Smiths Falls next week.

The event will see two all-star and two prospect teams from the Ontario Junior Hockey League and Central Canada Hockey League play a total of 12 games November 19-20.

Spirit captain David Paglia and assistant captain Julian Demiglio have been named to Team Tanev on the all-star side.

For the prospect games, Max Davidson is on the OJHL’s Team McBain and Ivan Mentiukov is an alternate.

The OJHL’s squads are named for current NHL players: Evan Rodrigues (Georgetown Raiders) of the Florida Panthers; Chris Tanev (Markham Waxers, Stouffville Spirit, Durham Fury) of the Toronto Maple Leafs; Zach Hyman (Hamilton Red Wings) of the Edmonton Oilers and Jack McBain (Toronto Jr. Canadiens) of the Utah Hockey Club.

“We are very happy for all three,” said Spirit Head Coach TJ Hill. “They have been a huge part of our success so far this season. Not only are they excellent players on the ice but they are even better people off the ice and have been great leaders in their own way all year long. For them to be recognized in this way is very well deserved.”

The Spirit knew Jacob Martineu was a sniper when they acquired him from the Drayton Valley Thunder of the Alberta Junior Hockey League earlier this season. The product of Ste-Agathe-de-Lotbinière, QC,   lit it up playing U18 AAA in Connecticut the past two seasons. He scored a pair of beauties and was named player of the game at the Stouffville Arena Saturday. Goaltender Masen Johnston earned his first Jr. A win after being sent to Stouffville by the Peterborough Petes of the Ontario Hockey League. Ivan Mentiukov and Danny Thomakos also had two-goal nights. Zack Corte and Josh Bonnyman had singles. Lachlan Wells, who leads all Spirit pointgetters with 29, had four assists

Stouffville 4, St. Michael’s 2, Nov. 7

Riley Pope’s empty-netter from distance with 40 seconds left in regulation capped a Spirited comeback at the Stouffville Arena. Pope also scored what proved to be the game-winner at 15:08 of the second for the Spirit who trailed 2-1 entering the period. Wells and Griffen Boyle had the other goals. Davidson was player of the game.
