You play four games in five days beginning Friday night.
The 2-1-0-0 Ontario Junior Hockey League club visits Lindsay Friday and hosts Burlington Saturday before heading to the OJHL Governors’ Showcase in Niagara Falls, ON Monday for a pair of games.
The OJHL Showcase is one of the largest junior hockey showcases in North America, with the event annually attracting more than 150 scouts from various levels of the game, including NHL Central Scouting, 32 NHL teams, NCAA Division I and III, the CHL and U SPORTS.
All 24 OJHL teams will convene on The Falls and play two games each over the three days of the Showcase. These regular season games count towards the OJHL season standings. All games will be broadcast online bythe OJHL’s webcast partner, FloHockey.
TERRY FOX: The Spirit’s annual affiliationwith theStouffville Terry Fox Run continued at Sunday’s run out of Memorial Park. The players staffed refreshment stops along the five-kilometer route and greeted the 1,000 participants at the finish line. More than $85,000 was raised for cancer research. Proceeds from all Spirit 50/50 draws during August and September will be donated to the fund. Players papered town businesses with Terry Fox Run posters in late August. Since 1982, the Stouffville run has raised more than $2.3 million.
NOTEBOOK: Big thanks to local duo Ruby Tuesday for the pregame concert at the home opener. Sarah Ranson, one half of the combo, sang the national anthem. Men of Note soloist Susan Ryman sang the anthem Saturday…thanks also to the Markham-Stouffville Stars and Whitchurch-Stouffville Minor Hockey Association players who served as on-ice flag bearers before the first two games…Spirit players attended a Stouffville Clippers U13 practice at the Clippers Complex Monday…the team needs one more billet family this season, preferably in central Stouffville. In front of 500-plus fans at the Farmer Jack’s home opener, Cam Martin’s goal from the point with 4:15 to play stood up as the game-winner. The big defenceman, who is a Peterborough Petes draft pick, was selected player of the game by his teammates.
Veterans Riley Pope, Lachlan Wells and Evan Breckles scored the other Spirit goals. Goaltender Kyle Downey earned the win to improve to 2-0-0-0. RIT commit Julian Demiglio had two assists.
Sept. 14
Lindsay 3, Stouffville 2
The Spirit outchanced and outshot (44-31) the Muskies before falling short. Mason Dermastja and Zack Corte scored. Wells assisted on both goals. Attendance was 306.
