Head coach Hill, two assistants returning for 2023-24 OJHL season

Head Coach TJ Hill – and assistant coaches Rob Ascenzi and Tyler Turcotte – will be back behind the Stouffville Spirit bench this season.

The Stouffville Spirit Jr. A Hockey Club has announced its coaching staff for the 2023-24 Ontario Junior Hockey League season today.

Head Coach TJ Hill and assistants Rob Ascenzi and Tyler Turcotte return from last season. They will be back on the ice when the Spirit opens training camp at the Stouffville Arena Aug. 10.

Hill was elevated from assistant coach to head coach in November after head coach Scott Donato resigned.

A junior A and minor hockey coach for almost 20 years, Hill was on OJHL coaching staffs in Ajax, Newmarket and Pickering before joining the Spirit in 2021.

The Aurora resident was a AAA head coach with the Ajax Pickering Raiders and South Central Coyotes minor hockey organizations.

“They’ve all earned this,” Spirit Governor and General Manager Kenny Burrows said. “Our entire hockey staff, including our scouts and coaches, worked tirelessly last season and during this offseason preparing our team for the upcoming season.

“Big thanks to Matt Riel, too, for helping with the transition following Scott’s resignation.”

The Spirit will play six preseason games before opening the OJHL regular season Sept. 8 in Aurora. The team plays its home opener the next night, Saturday, Sept. 9, against the same Aurora Tigers.
