SPIRIT ALUM ANANIA SIGNS WITH AHL’S CHARLOTTE CHECKERS

Stouffville Spirit graduate Andre Anania has signed a one-year, two-way AHL contract with the Charlotte Checkers for next season.

Anania, 21, posted 87 points (21g, 66a) in 180 OHL games over three seasons with the Sudbury Wolves, the Spirit’s Ontario Hockey League affiliate. The defenceman from Richmond Hill led all Wolves blueliners in goals last season and ranked second in points.

As a 16-year-old, let the Spirit defence in scoring with 22 points (14 G/8 A) during 2019-120.

He played in the OJHL All-Star Prospect game at the OJHL All Star Celebration, recording one assist for Team Caggiula, that season.

Anania and Spirit teammate Luke Strickland were named to the Ontario Junior Hockey League’s 2019-20 OJHL First All-Prospect Team.

The Stouffville Spirit was the only OJHL team with two players voted to the 1st team.
