102.9 WHISTLE FM BROADCASTING STOUFFVILLE SPIRIT GAMES THIS SEASON

Stouffville’s 102.9 WhiStle FM is back broadcasting Stouffville Spirit Jr. A hockey games this season.

The community station plans to air games on 102.9 FM, beginning with the team’s home opener on Thursday, Sept. 12. Game time is 7:30 p.m. at the Stouffville Arena.

Listeners can also join the broadcast team at www.whistlefm.ca and TuneIn.

Founded in 1995, the Spirit plays in the 24-team Ontario Junior Hockey League.

“Having the local radio station on board is a great asset for our team and our community,” said Spirit Governor Ken Burrows. “Over the years of WhiStle broadcasting our games we heard from so many people who couldn’t make it to games but felt like they were in the rink by listening on their radios. From folks on vacation down south to shut-ins, they listened to Spirit hockey on 102.9 WhiStle FM.”

Long-time play-by-play host Chris Mayberry will anchor the broadcasts with colour commentator Jason Rehel.

“Stouffville Spirit hockey is iatrical part of the community’s fabric,” said WhiStle Chairman Bob Pritchard, “and we are proud to once again this season be broadcasting during the 2024-25 season so everyone can enjoy every minute of Spirit play as the team continues on its path to the Frank Buckland Cup.”

A broadcast schedule will be released at a later date.

“As the season progresses, we will have interviews with players and coaching staff while keeping fans updated on the progress of the team as they battle their way to playoff hockey,” Pritchard said.
